how do your natural teeth stay healthy with porcelain veneers?

when you have porcelain veneers applied to your teeth.. how do your natural teeth keep healthy? I don’t understand..
I mean I know more often than not they are used to improve the appearance of unhealthy, rotten or ugly teeth.. but what I mean is.. how do they stop from getting worse, of falling out?

do you still have to brush porcelain veneers?.. surely if you can’t brush your natural teeth, they will pain and break and fall out eventually..

can someone please explain this to me :)
thanks.

Look at a porcelain veneer as similar to a thin layer of enamel that is fused to the outer surface of the tooth. They become on and the same as the tooth just like a tire retread is to a tire. The are not unbreakable but will be as strong as a tooth during normal usage. They have to be brushed and flossed like any other tooth.

Can porcelain veneers increase the size of your teeth?

I have relatively small teeth and I was wondering whether or not porcelain veneers can increase their size as well as change the shape.

Yes, no problem. That is a problem most veneer patients wish they had.

can you do a root canal on a porcelain veneers?

last yr i had porcelain veneers put on my front teeth, well now one has abscessed and i need a root canal. Can they reuse the veneer or will i have to get a new one? they are $600 EACH i cant see having to buy a brand new one? i also think the dentist is at fault for not taking care of the cavity before putting the veneer on last yr.

A rootcanal on an anterior tooth is done through the back of the tooth. The only way the veneer would need to be replaced is if there was decay or leakage around any of the margins of the veneer and then they may look at doing a crown verses a veneer because the strength of the tooth has been compromised.
If the veneer is only one year old, did your dentist mention at the time this tooth possibly needing a root canal?
We would not charge full price if the veneer needed to be replaced, you might want to ask your dentist if it does need to be replaced will he discount it being that it was done so recently.

Does anyone else have a bluish tint to their porcelain veneers?

I just got a mouth full of new porcelain veneers and I am not happy because they have a bluish tint to them. The cosmetic dentist said that all veneers have a degree of translucency to make them look "real" and this is why they have this tint and that it is normal. Since when are "real" teeth blue??? One of the reasons I got veneers was because I wanted WHITE teeth. Has anyone else experienced this problem and do you know if anything can be done??

They almost always have a blue tint but it seems to go away over time. :)

Are porcelain veneers less expensive in Mexico?

I live in the US with no health insurance but i am looking to get porcelain veneers put on. I heard in Mexico they do it for cheaper. I was wondering if this was true. I can’t afford the estimates i am getting from dentists in the US.

sure they are!!!…I got porcelain veneers for $399 in Cancun

How durable are porcelain veneers?

I have a large gap between my teeth and have decided to get porcelain veneers. I need six veneers. After talking with my dentist, he said I could chip or break them if I bite into bacon that is too hard, or if I bite my nails(bad habit), and that I will need to wear a mouthguard at night so I don’t grind them off. I really want to improve my smile and confidence, and orthadontics are not an option. Will the porcelain veneers hold up or will I regret this decision and be ultimately left with broken teeth that I won’t be able to afford to fix? Would someone KNOWLEDGEABLE steer me in the right direction or give some advice?

I’ve had mine for a few years now. Yes , they are somewhat fragile, but part of that depends on the shape of the veneers & the leftover shape of the remaining tooth underneath (the dentist has to file down your tooth to allow the veneers to attach). I still bite my nails on occasion & that hasn’t caused any problems, but biting into a hard biscotti caused one veneer to be popped off a couple of times (each more than a year apart), so the dentist changed the underlying tooth shape to help it hold better & there’s been no problems since. Out of 6 veneers, that was the only one that has ever given me any problems, so that’s pretty good results as I view them. What that means is that if your eating a very hard food that you know may cause you problems, break or cut it into small pieces so you don’t have to use the veneers to bite them & can chew with your back, non-veneered teeth. Good luck & enjoy your new smile!

Will Crest 3D White Strips work on porcelain veneers?

My two front, top teeth have porcelain veneers. Will Crest 3D White Strips work on them? If not, what whitening system would?

There isn’t a whitening system made that will change the shade of porcelain veneers. The shade is baked in when the veneers are cast and nothing can change the shade. except having them replaced.

Sorry

Would the Navy help pay for Porcelain Veneers?

Hi,I am going to be active duty in the Navy and I was just wondering if anyone knew if the navy would help in the cost of getting porcelain veneers. I’ve heard they do other cosmetic surgeries such as breast implants, and liposuction.

No. The Navy wouldn’t pay for something that just makes your teeth look good.

can the scratches on my porcelain veneers come off?

the dentist polished the veneers because it had two bubbles and now it looks like he scratched the porcelain and they are not glossy. he ordered some polish from lab but it didn’t work.i didn’t notice until i got home.im suppose to go back.so what do i now? can someone please give me advice?is he suppose to fix it? hes the one that put on the veneers and its only been a month.

Definitely, yes.Your dentist can fix it or can give you a better resolve by changing it also.Look,in our clinic,we take responsibility to the crown and veneers and dentures as well when the patients were feeling discomfort and in your case,it was a fault of the dentist not yours. So,go back to him to give you the best resolve to your worries.Good luck.

i need help deciding whether to get invisalign or porcelain veneers?

if i get invisalign i have to wear it for 9 months. if i get porcelain veneers i think i might feel fake. i have a gap that i really don’t like and would like to change since it’s my senior year. can someone help me?

Hey I hope u are doing well on your senior year. I see this a lot in my practice, and I have to tell you it depends on the urgency. In my opinion you are really young to have venners unless it is absolutely necessary, and your teeth are damaging your public appearance and work relations. Veneers also remove some tooth enamel which u will never get back, and even though they are going to last a very long time, you may need to replace them from time to time. Invisalign is a good option for minor movements and usually we get a really positive result. You will not be shaving any tooth and you will be aligning them properly. Now in some cases I cannot fix the problem with invisalign becasue of jaw discrepancies, but thats a dentist problem. I hope I gave you enough information to make an informative choice, hope you are happy with the end result.
